1st TLI - for the term 2009/10

12 July 2009..That was the day to kick start the ball rolling for the new term! Officers were being trained to lead the new term. 4 of us attended the 1st TLI (Training and Leadership Institute) training at Wisma Sabah, KK from 9AM till 2PM and with this training our club has earned itself half a goal and it's only the beginning of the term. Certainly, this is a good start for our club. The officers who attended the training are:

1. CL Amy Hiew, The President
2. CC Alice Kok, The VP of Education
3. CC CL Ling How Kee, The VP of Membership
4. CC Shane Ho, The VP of Public Relations

TOP 4 officers were THERE! Although it was Sunday, when everyone should be laying in their beds, dreaming of their prince charmings or their beautiful princesses but our officers have taken up the roles so seriously that they left those dreams behind (probably dated to meet again on Monday night) to attend the training. With this little sacrifice, we have 9.5 goals to go.

All of us learned skills & new ideas on how to further improve the club's current status. As a new comer to the officer rank, I believe I've gained tremendously throughout the training AND I think with the support from the Excos and the members - we can, again reach 10 out of 10 goals soon. Let's keep up the good work and let's up keep the current status of our club as 'President Distinguished Club' for the years to come!

(photo please........)

Here they are:-

Us, the DG (District Governor) and the trainers. Taken during lunch break.

Woah... our officers (Amy and Alice) sat beside DG! How honourable... and they had time for photo session?

Look at me! I ain't better off... I had time for photo session

too while DG was giving his opening speech...

VPPR 2009/10
CC Shane Ho

p/s: Counting 1..2..3..4.. Yes! 5 more days to the installation of our club... if you are not aware yet, please contact us fast as the tickets are selling out like hot cakes!

Training Meeting on 9th July 2009

"A happy woman, is a beautiful woman" ~ Nick Chung
Look at our President Amy...How beautiful and happy she is.

Word of the day was "Equip". It was used 9 times throughout the meeting. Not bad....

Birthday baby for July = TM Jimmy Leong. I heard the cake was extremely delicious.

But you all forgotten about me.. :-( .. i didn't have a slice of it.

From Left: Davina, Wilfred, Nick, Alex, Shane

Chin Khi Hein, Alice Kok, President Amy **** Yeah****, Winnie, Sunny Wong.

Jimmy, Venessa (guest), Nicole (guest), Madonna (not McDonald, guest), Chong (guest) and Datin Grace.

Shane presenting his ACB #2 Speech ~ "The decision maker"

VPE Alice presenting her ACB #2 ~ "The Art of Painless Communication"

She role played with TM Alex Yong to show us the way to communicate effectively.

Our guest Mr. Chong has won himself a gift of 7D/6N Luxury Cruise worth RM 9,999
Charity Dinner Ticket worth RM 60.

Our long lost member, ACS Nick Chung was here to share some humour with us, and he concluded with his congratulation message to the newly elected President Amy with his "silent appreciation".

Last night's training meeting was awesome! Some members who seldom came to the meeting last term (must be last year's President not popular) showed up to support the newly elected President Amy. Nick, Sunny Wong, Davina, Wilfred.... welcome back to you all. Now that Amy is the new President, you all should come more often.

The sandwiches were delicious, no kidding..they were really good! The B'day cake was yummy too! Not a morsel of food was left towards the end of the tea break.

Our guests (highly potential members)... Vanessa, Nicole, Madonna and Chong were at the meeting, and President Amy mistakenly called Chong's girlfirend, Madonna as "McDonald". Was Amy thinking of opening a McDonald's burger branch here in Sandakan??

Hey Amy, next time we go to KK, I buy you McDonald burgers lah.

Alice and Shane presented their ACB projects during the meeting.

From Shane's speech, I learn that "not making any decision" itself, is also a decision.

And Alice has shown us the proper way to solicit a guest to become a member.

The night was fun-filled and definitely "stomach-filled" as well. However, I didn't manage to catch a bite of the Chocolates that Datin Grace brought back all the way from Melbourne.

Wait... did I say "Melbourne"? Datin, have u been screened for H1N1?

Count Our Blessing....

Few weeks ago, I read the following statement and found that it's absolutely true for me:

"People are willing to spent RM 10 to watch a movie (e.g. Transformers) and RM 5.80 for pop-corn and coke. But,

People are (very) reluctant to donate RM 15.80 for the purpose of Charity." (You are considered very very generous for donating 3 bucks to a beggar).

People are willing to spend 2 hours watching movies, but when they see a car break down at the road side, they are "too busy" to help.

What has gone wrong with us? is it a "social illness" as we call it?

All of us are the blessed bunch of people. (if you are able to read this entry, it means you can read, you understand English and you own a computer). Some might complained that they are not loved by their parents or lovers, others might say they are jobless and broke. but do you know that you are still the luckiest people in the world? (by comparison)

There are hundreds of children in other parts of this world die of hunger every hour, there are hundreds of people in the war zone die (horribly) every hour just because they were born in the war zone and there are thousands of children born disabled and mentally impaired. (and they have done nothing wrong for most of them).

After reading the statement, i feel the urge to help those helpless. Then, I received a call and an opportunity to contribute:

The Cheshire Home Fund Raising Dinner:

The fund raising dinner only cost RM 60. It will be at Hakka Hall, Mile 6, Sandakan on 8th August 2009, 7pm.

If you have a heart to contribute, let me know. I have 8 more tickets with me.

Last Training Meeting of the term 2008/2009

May 25th, 2009... Last training meeting for the term 2008/2009.

Incoming President, CC Amy Hiew couldn't wait for her term and decided to chair the meeting herself!!!

See, How happy was our incoming president!

and look what has happened to our outgoing President....

No face see people.....

(Actually, my colleagues were in indirect contact with a H1N1 carrier earlier... just pure precaution!).

This was our guest (cum potential member) Chong Chan Yau...

New Member #1 for Amy's term?

Though the meeting was only attended by a handful of members, the meeting quality was not compromised with the quantity. We had Table Topics, Speech by Datuk Hassan and Humour by the famous invited presentation by "Ong Swee Keat".

Toastmaster of the evening JR Chia has done a marvelous job....

And this was my favorite part:

Winner of a telescope for the best Table Topics Speaker, Telescope was sponsored by Table Topics Master Ling How Kee....
and the winner is: ME!
Congratulation to ME!
Next training meeting falls on 9th July. Please come to listen to President Amy's Inaugural Speech.
Toastmaster of the evening will be the "oversea buddha" Immediate Past President Norman Chin.
Please come to support and take up roles.
For the last time, "with Courage we Conquer"
Norman

Vision and Mission

What’s your “vision and mission” in life? Millionaire?

Do you agree that anybody can earn millions of dollars and still be a jerk. Wealth should not be the ultimate tool to measure one’s success.

After listening to Shane’s speech last night titled “My journey”, I know I am on the right track to achieving my “mission & vision”.

So, “what’s your vision and mission?”, you might ask.

Some of you may remember that I went to Gold Coast to attend a seminar 3 years back. And I seldom share with you all what the seminar was about.

The seminar “Date with Destiny” was a great, exciting and fulfilling one, in the seminar we were required to set our “purpose of life”.

And I am glad to share with you today, about my “purpose”::

“The purpose of my life, is to be colorful, enjoy freedom, and do enlightenment to myself and others” ~ Norm’C

Last night, when CC Shane Ho highlighted in his speech that, I… yes, is me, have “enlightened” him in my post http://sandakantoastmasters.blogspot.com/2008/07/from-ctm-to-acb.html which has inspired him to continue with his advanced communicator journey, I was so touched.

I am honored by Shane's statement, knowing that I have achieved a milestone in my journey of life. “To inspire others and be inspired in return”. The feeling is like striking a lottery ticket (for a RM 200 consolation prize).

Learning, is a life long journey. Congratulations to all of you who have decided to continue with the Advance Communication Manual and let’s vision our success in achieving DTM status in time to come.

It’s my honor to be able to serve you all!
