Toastmasters Training Meeting

Cute or not? You might wonder what's this two cute little dolls' role in a Toastmasters Training Meeting?

It's actually a souvenir brought back by our President from Kuching Convention.... to be awarded to tonight's outstanding member.

VPE Amy Hiew also brought back "this" for members:

It's the thoughts that count!

The cute little pepper shakers were awarded to Jimmy & Winnie for their marvelous jobs as the Humour Master & Toastmaster of the Evening.

We have 3 guests attended our training meeting:

Jane's Guest : Alvin Lim

Ling' and Shane's guest: Anna & Mark. (working for the the Yellow Man Co.)

Though with only 10 members and 3 guests, all of us enjoyed the every bit of the training meeting.

Alex, our new member, his first role as the Sergeant At Arms for the evening, and Presenting his 1st Ice Breaker during the Meeting.

The word of the day, Prevail, was introduced to us by TM Jane. The word only been used once during the meeting. However, we did learn a new word!

CC Shane Ho as the Table Topics Master has thrown us some "very challenging" question to test our Table Topics skill.

A Toastmasters meeting is not complete without the "fattening factor". We have cheese cake and coffee at Jesselton Coffee before we call it a night!

Thought to some, it might be "just another Toastmasters meeting". To me, every meeting, I learn something and we enjoy ourself. I can't wait till the next meeting!

Next Meeting falls on 14th May 2009 and the TME is CC Shane Ho.

OSCAR of Toastmasters

6 of the Sandakan Toastmasters Club members went to attend the District 51 - Annual Convention in Kuching few days ago.



Take aside the tiring journey, all of us enjoyed the whole convention. Listening to excellent speakers, speech contest, great food, lots of laughter, fellowship and visiting some "nice houses" were among few things that we have enjoyed tremendously during our stay at Kuching.



I shall blog again on those "special moment" in the coming blogs.



we, Sandakan Toastmasters Club, were being presented the "Oscar equivalent" and here is it! As we achieved 10/10 DCP goals before 10th April, club members who attended the convention received this prestige award ON STAGE (Group photo pending).



Out of the 200+ clubs in district 51, only 12 clubs achieved their 10/10 goals and 10 clubs had 9/10 goals. All these President Distinguished Clubs were presented with this award.



It's truly our honour to be able to receive this award during the Annual Convention. Thanks to all of you whom have contributed directly, indirectly and spiritually.

Division K Annual Convention 2009

Area K2 Governor Datin Grace, Datuk Hassan and myself had a great time at Division K-Convention @ Beverly Hotel on 28-29th March 2009.

We enjoyed the fellowship dinner "Glitter Mama Mia" a lot. Singing, dancing, impromptu dances and performances....they were well prepared for the convention. One word to describe our experience… “fun”.

As for the Division K international speech contest and table topics contest... I am proud to announce that the champion for International Speech Contest is from Area K2, she is non-other than Grace Yong from Tawau Toastmasters Club.... applause....

Grace from Tawau Toastmasters has delivered a flawless speech titled “A for Attitude”. Her speech touched the judges emotions and she deserves to be the champion of Division K international speech champion.

Her triumphant also proves that clubs at Area K2 are with exceptional high quality. I urge members from Sandakan Toastmasters Club to have courage and participate in the future speech contests, and bring back more glory to Area K-2 in the future.

Little Black Dress (LBD) & Tie Night

Hello Fellow Members,

It's me, your long lost VPPR Alice who is jaded from hopping around too much.

I'm here to share with you something very unique happening in our club this month. As you may be a little confused with the title of this post, our theme for the upcoming unique meeting is "Little Black Dress & Tie" Night, which means female members are to wear their signature black dresses (i believe every girl/woman will have at least 1 black dress) and male members to put on a tie, which is really simple as most of you are wearing a tie to the training meetings nowadays (your tie does not necessary have to be black).

So why is all the fuss you ask? Well, do you know that March is known as the Toastmasters Month and during this month, we have planned a not-so-ordinary meeting to promote our lovely club to the community and as our President mentioned, it's not necessary to increase the number of our membership, but ultimately, to introduce our club to people who are unwitting about Toastmasters or to people who has not have a chance to visit our club.

In view of this, we have organized a special themed meeting outside our ordinary meeting room on 12 March 2009 at De Palm Restaurant. Yes, we'll have special set dinner (a 3 courses meal) on that night too if you are wondering, not the ordinary fried mee hoon or sandwich in our meeting. However, that comes in a price of RM20 per member, it's free for your guest though (1st guest only). According to our President, VPE Amy has scored a bargain for this special dinner deal which would normally cost RM40++, what a steal!Dinner will start at 7pm and followed by our training meeting at 8pm. We'll have our usual agenda for the meeting and there'll be speakers as well. As of today, the speech slots have all been taken up by our enthusiastic speakers and please come to witness for yourselves the passion of Toastmasters members. It's ok if you are timid and do not feel like speaking in front of all of us, we would love to enjoy your tacit support anyway.

Fellow members and readers, are you tempted to join us in this meeting after knowing all the facts above? Well, i couldn't think of any harm to participate in all the fun. So, why don't you make yourselves available on 12 March 2009 (from 7pm - 10pm) and beseech a friend that you think might enjoy the meeting like you do to join in all the fun? Afterall, you'll never know how you will hit the motivator button on yourselves or your friend's after the meeting.

I have to accumulate some good karma points for being absent from meetings lately, so i'm going to search through my contact list and invite a friend now.

International Speech and Table Topics Contest were successfully held at Mark's Lodge, Sandakan on 20th February 2009.

Round 2 - The Rat Race Continue...

Wow, this is how much the leader, Ling, had, after he got out from the Rat Race. So many "0" in his cash bill.

The game is not yet over, but looks like Ling is far far far far ahead of the others. He has millions on hand while we are still struggling to get out from the Rat Race.
